Rafael Fiziev takes a fight full of uneventful grappling and ends things almost right away in the final round, defeating Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Vegas 58
A fight that was disappointing in performance and seemed likely to go the distance ended quite suddenly in the final round, as Rafael Fiziev defeated former UFC lightweight champion former Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of UFC Vegas 58.
Fiziev has now won six straight since dropping his Octagon debut and looks likely to rise a couple of places in the rankings of the UFC’s lightweight division, whose title is currently vacant.
Dos Anjos landed a hook on Fiziev early in the opening round before focusing on bringing him to the cage wall and limiting his offense. In the last minute or so, however, Fiziev managed to break free and score a couple of combinations — in addition to a left hook that stunned dos Anjos before the horn.

After Fiziev stuffed a takedown, Dos Anjos attempted to get Fiziev on the fence again in the second round, but Fiziev found his way out in a much quicker fashion. When Dos Anjos seemed to get the takedown successfully, after taking a variety of shots from Fiziev, Fiziev reversed it and quickly got the fight back to the feet.
Dos Anjos attempted to get the takedown again early in the third, but it was stuffed and turned into clinching against the cage yet again. And once more, when Fiziev broke free, he took control — in terms of both striking and grappling.
The clinch-fest continued into round four, even when dos Anjos landed a flying knee.
But that all changed in the fifth round. Very quickly, Fiziev finished things off by knocking RDA down with a left hook before ending with some ground-and-pound.
