GoM On Casinos, Horse Racing, Online Gaming Gets More Time To Submit Report

The group of ministers considering a uniform 28% goods and services tax on casinos, race horses and online gaming has received an extension to submit its report.

The GoM was granted an extension till Aug. 10 to submit its final report after the stakeholders presented their arguments on Tuesday, according to a person aware of the matter. The GoM was earlier expected to submit the report by July 15.

The next GST Council meeting, scheduled for the first week of August in Madurai, is also likely to be pushed to the third week of the month, the person said on the condition of anonymity as details are not public yet.

At the last GST Council meet in Chandigarh in June, Goa Minister for Transport and Panchayat Mauvin Godinho had sought a review of the GST rate on casinos. The council then agreed to review GST on horse racing, casinos and online gaming.

The GoM is expected to meet once before submitting the report.

Chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the GoM is considering a uniform GST rate on horse racing, online gaming and casinos as these are considered betting and gambling. It would also suggest whether online gaming should be taxed on the gross revenue.
