Is Starbucks open on Juneteenth?
Everyone needs their coffee and that caffeine craving does not take holidays off. So we don’t blame you for wanting to know if your local Starbucks will be open on Juneteenth.
Before we get there though, June 19 is the actual day to celebrate but due to it falling on a Sunday this year, June 20 is the day it will observed. This is only the second year in a row that Juneteenth is being recognized federally.
What is Juneteenth?
According to History.com, Juneteenth is short for June 19, which was when “federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.” This is a significant day in American history as “the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.” It was made a federal holiday in 2021.

“Our company-operated stores will remain open so that we may continue to serve our customers, but store partners (employees) will receive holiday pay. Licensed stores will follow the direction provided by their employer,” Starbucks said on their website.
Basically what that means is corporate locations are open but franchises (airports, inside grocery stores, etc) may not. So call ahead to check so you won’t get your hopes up.
