Morocco and Spain play each other in the World Cup round of 16 on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar. Here’s how to watch.
Morocco and Spain do battle on Tuesday at the World Cup with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
Morocco, surprise winners of Group F after downing Canada 2-1, face a formidable Spain side that has underperformed at this tournament. Spain finished second in Group E after losing 2-1 to Japan.
The African side are led by right back Achraf Hakimi and fellow winger Noussair Mazraoui on the other flank. They like to put balls into their opponents box as they look to exploit defensive lapses.
The matchup seems to favor Spain, but Morocco has played very well in Qatar over the past two weeks. Topping the group was an historic feat. It marks only the second time in their history that the Atlas Lions have advanced to the last-16.
But Spain, who reached the semifinals of last year’s European Championship, are stacked with young talent, spearheaded by Barcelona midfielders Pedri and Gavi. Spain are also inexperienced, which is something their opponents exploited during the group stage.
While they continue to maintain possession for long stretches, Spain have struggled to create scoring chances that can win them games.
