Philly to remove and replace flags along Benjamin Franklin Parkway

Philadelphia will remove and replace the flags along Benjamin Franklin Parkway’s “Flags of the Nation” as they have become worn and tattered, officials said on Thursday. The city hopes to replace them semiannually as residents have requested they be replaced. The flags were initially added in 1976 during the city’s bicentennial celebration, and have grown to 109 flags along museum mile since then. Puerto Rico is the only non-country represented, and the city has no plans to add more at this time.
