Teen shot while driving stolen SUV in Strawberry Mansion taken into custody, police say

A teenager who was shot overnight while driving a stolen vehicle in Strawberry Mansion was hospitalized and taken into custody early Tuesday morning, police say.

The 18-year-old was driving on 22nd Street around midnight when he was hit by two bullets, FOX29 reported.

Police say the teen was later found inside the vehicle about half a mile away on the corner of 22nd and Oxford streets, 6ABC reported.

He was brought to Temple University Hospital where he’s currently in police custody.

Authorities say the Nissan Rogue SUV was reported stolen in Northeast Philadelphia last month.

A 21-year-old who was in the passenger seat at the time of the shooting was also taken into custody, authorities say. He was not hit by the gunfire.

Police say the passenger was in possession of a semiautomatic rifle with an extended magazine and a backpack with a large quantity of illicit drugs.

No motive or charges have been announced at this time.
